Project Creators
Angela Williams Bickham and Sawyer Rose attended high school together in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA and are reconnecting after almost 30 years through their shared love of data, historical research, and their desire to make the invisible lives of women visible.
Sawyer Rose, FRSA, MRSS is a sculptor, installation and social practice artist. Throughout her career, Rose has used her artwork to shine a spotlight on contemporary social and ecological issues. Her work on The Carrying Stones Project addresses women’s work inequity and has been featured by the New York Times, Ms., and BUST. Rose is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts (London), a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors (London), and the Sculptors Guild (New York). She is the Past President and current Communications Chair of the Northern California Women’s Caucus for Art (San Francisco). She currently lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Angela Williams Bickham is a poet and independent researcher. She earned her BA in English Literature from the University of Virginia, her MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) from the University of Notre Dame and her MA in American Studies from the College of William and Mary. Since 1996, she has published poetry and essays in journals such as Obsidian, The Black Scholar, The Journal of African Travel Writing, Xavier Review, and Carologue. She is also published in Gathering Ground: Cave Canem’s First Decade and Role Call - A Generational Anthology of Social and Political Black Literature & Art.
